I had  good day yesterday afternoon (?) 10th September 2014.

I popped down to Charoen Krung to see my pal who works the stamp shop. He'd found me a set issued for the 150 years celebration of the Chakri Dynasty, issued in 1932. So I had them off him straight away. A month after their issue a coup removed Siam's absolute monarchy, sort of.

After that I nipped over the new road to his mate's shop, the one that sells extortionately prices "authentic" reprints of magazines featuring Siam's royalty visiting Europe, targeted at wealthy tourists staying at the Shangri La and Oriental looking for that special memento. Tucked in one of his display cases, on not so good a view, was a 1947 LIFE article on King Ananda's, Rama VIII, funeral.

Then I walked back up Silom to Lumpini Park, took a look at Rama VI and got a cab to the pub, where I sank more than a few with the usuals. As you do ...on a Wednesday.
